TechOptimizer 4.0 Installation Guide

Installation

TechOptimizer 4.0 is shipped on two CDs. 'Disk 1' includes TechOptimizer 4.0 software, as well as supporting documentation. 'Disk 2' includes the complete Effects database.

Users can perform either a standalone installation, or a server installation. If the standalone option is selected during setup, TechOptimizer is installed into the specified directories for exclusive use on the machine running the Setup Wizard. However, when the Server option is selected, TechOptimizer is accessible by multiple clients across the network. In this latter case, each client must connect to the server and perform a setup to download client-specific components before being able to run TechOptimizer on the network. The number of client machines that can perform setup for network access is limited to the number of licenses purchased. For more information about standalone or server installation, please see the TechOptimizer Installation Guide (PDF) on 'Disk 1'.

Standalone Installation
  1. Insert 'Disk 1' into the CD-ROM drive. This will automatically run the Setup Wizard. To start the Setup Wizard manually, select Run from the Start menu on the Windows taskbar, and type D:\SETUP (if your CD-ROM is designated as the 'D:' drive).

  2. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Make sure to select the Standalone configuration.

During setup, you will also be prompted to request a license file. Once Invention Machine receives the request, a unique LICENSE.DAT file will be generated and forwarded to the individual who submitted the request. This LICENSE.DAT file must be copied to the TechOptimizer installation directory. Its location must be specified using the SetLicense utility, accessible from the TechOptimizer program group on the Start menu.

Note: The LICENSE.DAT file can also be obtained by starting the LicenseInfo.exe utility directly from the TechOptimizer installation CD.

Internet Connection Settings

TechOptimizer IM-Internet Assistant automatically utilizes the connection settings of Internet Explorer during installation. If these settings are not correct, or if a different browser (e.g., Netscape Navigator) is used to access the World Wide Web, they can be modified manually as follows:

  1. Start IM-Internet Assistant.

  2. Select Options > Connection on the View menu.

  3. Select the 'Connect through a proxy server' check box, and enter the appropriate proxy settings.
This information can be obtained from your system administrator, or from your browser:

If you are using Netscape Navigator 4.x, from the Netscape Navigator menu:

Select Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Proxies to view the HTTP address and the Port number.

If you are using Netscape Navigator 3.x, from the Netscape Navigator menu:

Select Options > Network > Preferences > Proxies to view the HTTP address and the Port number.

If proxy authentication is being used, obtain the appropriate User Name and Password from your system administrator.

  4. In the Advanced Settings section, enter the:

    - Connection time-out, seconds (the maximum time spent trying to connect to a source)
    - Retry attempts (the number of times to try to connect to a source)
    - Maximum thread count (the number of channels open for simultaneous data transfer)
